Ùsaid - Usage
This template is one of a number intended for use in taxoboxes under the |subdivision=
or |synonyms=
parameters, to produce a list of taxa in a consistent format. The table below shows the behaviour of the available templates.
Taxon name | Template | ||
---|---|---|---|
Italicized | Linked | Bold | |
no | no | no | {{Taxon list}} |
no | yes | no | {{Linked taxon list}} |
no | no | yes | {{Bold taxon list}} |
yes | no | no | {{Species list}}, alias {{Genus list}} |
yes | yes | no | {{Linked species list}}, alias {{Linked genus list}} |
yes | no | yes | {{Bold species list}}, alias {{Bold genus list}} |
Use like this:
{{Species list | Spexia speciosa | Authority, 2003 | †Spexia additiona | Others et al., 2002 | Spexia typa | Describer, 1888 (type) | Spexia dubia | | Specia dubia ''subsp.'' maxima | }}
Both the taxon name and authority will be automatically formatted to produce:
- Spexia speciosa Authority, 2003
- †Spexia additiona Others et al., 2002
- Spexia typa Describer, 1888 (type)
- Spexia dubia
- Specia dubia subsp. maxima
Note that if the authority is not known, the "|" must still be present after the taxon name.
If a "connecting term" is present in a botanical name, such as "subsp.", "var." or "f.", then this should not be italicized. The template should automatically de-italicize connecting terms. If this fails, you can put '' either side of the connecting term to de-italicize it.
Mark incomplete lists using |incomplete=yes
, which will add "(incomplete)" to the end of the list.
Caochlaidhean - Variations
To automatically link the content of every taxon name, use {{Linked species list}}. To bold-face the species (e.g. if they will never have their own pages, when listed in a genus article) use {{Bold species list}}.
For example:
{{Linked species list / {{Linked genus list | Spexia speciosa | Authority, 2003 | †Spexia additiona | Others et al., 2002 | Spexia typa | Describer, 1888 (type) | Spexia dubia {{!}} S. dubia | <!--creates a piped link--> | ''[[cùgar {{!}} Cùgar ]]'' | Jardine, 1834 <!--handles a disambiguated genus name--> }}
produces
- Spexia speciosa Authority, 2003
- †Spexia additiona Others et al., 2002
- Spexia typa Describer, 1888 (type)
- S. dubia
- Cùgar Jardine, 1834
Each of the three "species list" templates has a "genus list" alias.
Tacsa á bith - Extinct taxa
The name of an extinct taxon can be preceded by one of the following markers: † † {{extinct}}
. Any of them will appear as † in the output. The † will not be italicized and will not be included in a wikilink.
Faic cuideachd - Also see
- {{Genus list}}, {{Linked genus list}} and {{Bold genus list}} are aliases for the equivalent "Species list" templates.
- {{Taxon list}} – creates a list for taxon names which should not be italicized, i.e. taxa at ranks higher than genus
- {{Linked taxon list}} – as {{Taxon list}} but the taxon names are wikilinked
- {{Bold taxon list}} – as {{Taxon list}} but the taxon names are wikilinked
